Introductory Post
Hello Everybody!
Welcome to the friendly neighborhood Warhamer Fantasy Battles (and maybe even 40k!) blog.
I have started this blog to have a place to show off the painting, modeling, and battling for myself and friends. Hopefully we can get a fairly active blog going to show off all of our skills or lack thereof.
To get this post started off, I shall show you the first model that I have painted for my burgeoning Chaos Daemons army for both Warhammer Fantasy and 40k.
He was my first big painting project after sharpening my teeth on painting some Chaos Space Marines and Rhinos. He is currently in need of some minor touchups before he gets a coat or two of sealant, but overall I am happy with what I have managed to accomplish. Now let us get down to the brass tacks of the painting procedure applied to him.
First I primed him with a matte black car spray primer before getting his base coats laid down. The flesh portions were hit with a few coats of Dwarf Flesh while the tunic received a layering of Astronimicon Gray. Finally the wings were base coated with some Necron Abyss.
To keep the tunic looking fairly bright, I simply applied a liberal dry brushing of skull white all over to attempt to keep the recesses in the cloth a shadowy bluish gray. Afterwards, I went back over the trim and bling with a layer of Chaos black before going back over with the metallics. The trim its self just got an over brush of Chainmail while the gold chains received some dwarf bronze.
The flesh was painted by layering dwarf flesh over top of the black primer, though it took quite a few layers to get a good even coverage. After the Dwarf was dropped, I put a layer of Necron Abyss on the top half of his thighs. Once that layer was dried, I started layering Blood Red below it to attempt to get some blending into the flesh tones. To aid in that effect, after I achieved an adequate blend with the flesh and red, i started attempting to blend the blue and red with a few layers of Lich Purple. After getting the thighs looking decent, I applied a Leviathan Purple wash all over followed by a Baal Red wash. Once the washes were dried I evened out the flesh with a very liberal drybrush of Dwarf Flesh once again, which completed the flesh portions of the model.
The wings and feathers were done by first covering them with Necron Abyss. The wings were completed by adding Lich Purple followed by Mechrite Red as I got closer to the wing tips. These sections were blended by drybrushing the lighter color into the darker. Finally the blue and purple feathers got a drybrush of enchanted blue to achieve some rudimentary highlights while the red feathers received some Blood Red drybrushing.
The staff was painted by drybrushing Boltgun Metal overtop of the black primer. To finish the staff off, the runes were painted Dwarf Bronze.
The model was then finally finished by applying a brown ink on all of the gold/bronze components to darken them up a bit.
Overall I am happy with how the model turned out.
